Indian Seats Trail Loop

Indian Seats Trail Loop

Start: Sawnee Mountain Preserve

Location: Bettis Tribble Gap Rd., Cumming, GA

Distance: 4 mile loop

Difficulty: Moderate

Dog Friendly: No

The trail begins at the Sawnee Mountain Visitor's Center where you can learn a little history about Sawnee Mountain and information on wildlife you may encounter. This trail is perfect for the family though your furry friends are not welcome. This is an easy trail to locate with GPS just 40 miles north of Atlanta.   The trail is wide in most areas lined with a dense forest of hardwoods.

The 4 mile trail is not overly difficult though you will gain around 400 feet of elevation. Before arriving to Indian Seats, you will come across a few gated gold mine entrances. These mines were created in the 1800's and add a unique touch to the trail. After you pass the mine entrances, the trail steepens and you will make your way towards the summit of Sawnee Mountain.

Once you reach the summit, you will see the reason this trail is named Indian Seats. This natural rock formation at the summit gives the name to this great trail.  There is a viewing platform which offers spectacular views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. There are also many other great spots to check out the views. The summit has plenty of room to spread out, set up a hammock, relax, and enjoy.

This trail offers one other hidden secret. This is our family's favorite spot to catch a sunset. With 180-degree views of the surrounding landscape, this place is the perfect spot to marvel over cotton candy skies. If you have not been yet, we highly suggest you add this to your list.
