Blue Hole Falls/ High Shoals Falls - Towns County, GA

Start: Indian Grave Gap Road/ FSR 283

Location: Towns County

Distance: 2.4 mile out-and-back

Difficulty: Moderate

Dog Friendly: Yes

You access the trailhead by driving approximately one mile on Forest Service Road 283 which is located 11 miles north of Helen, GA. This gravel road does not require a four wheel drive vehicle though it can be a bit challenging to navigate without one. You will park in a small parking area at the trailhead. The trail is well maintained and there are several primitive campsites along the way. These are first come first serve.

The trail to the falls is a steep descent through a lush forest of hardwoods. One mile into the hike, you will come upon Blue Hole Falls. These falls live up to their name with clear blue water that is chilly and refreshing on a hot day. There is a viewing platform that you can stand on and view the falls from. This is one of our favorite swimming holes. You can take a dip here but be mindful of not trampling the vegetation.

The trail continues past Blue Hole Falls. Next, you will come to a magnificent 50 foot cascading waterfall, High Shoals Falls. The viewing platform allows you to see the magnitude of these falls. The rocks around these falls can be slick.

You will return to the car on the same path you descended. It is a bit of a climb so take your time and enjoy the beauty of this trail.
